Doree - Owletts 1

Doree Bonner International, renowned specialists in the removal and storage of fine arts and antiques, were recently commissioned by the National Trust to package, move and store pieces of furniture, artwork and delicate sculptures from Owletts, Kent, the former home of famous architect Sir Herbert Baker. The decision to entrust Doree Bonner was based on their reputation as one of the top 10 removers and storage companies in the UK.

Owletts, which is currently closed for refurbishment, is a charming Charles II country manor house that has been protected by the National Trust since 1938. An antique lover’s goldmine, Owletts has played home to some extraordinary pieces including designs commissioned by Baker himself and others from his travels all over the world. Doree Bonner pulled on their vast experiences and packaged these exquisite pieces in made to measure, custom built crates, wrapping them in specialist packing materials for protection in transit and storage.

Sir Herbert Baker, famed for his inspired designs both overseas and in the UK, has an extensive portfolio of famous buildings to his name which include the Groote Schuur in Cape Town, South Africa, the Union Buildings in Pretoria, India House in The Aldwych and the South Africa House in Trafalgar Square.

Dave Shove, Manager of the Fine Arts Division at Doree Bonner International said: ‘When I first visited Owletts it was like stepping back in time. The job certainly could not be rushed and I planned it over five days with four of our specialist packing team. It was a very interesting project indeed.’
