About our black cat logo..

If you’ve ever spotted a Doree Bonner vehicle out on the road, you might have noticed the distinctive black cat logo that adorns.

Over the years, we have received a few questions about our black cat. This usually goes something like: “What does a black cat have to do with removals and storage?” or “Does the black cat have a story?”

We wanted to take the chance to answer these questions, and at the same time tell the tale of Oscar the Doree Bonner cat.

Before we became the Doree Bonner International you know today, two removals companies operated about 8 miles away from each other. These were Bonners of Welling, based in Welling, and Dorees Removals, based in Catford.

The owner of Dorees was usually found in his removals office, working away on the tasks of the day. From time to time, Dorees’ owner would glance out of the window to the busy street below. It was in these moments that he would often spot a distinctive black cat weaving its way through the crowd. Most remarkably, the cat had an amazing knack for knowing when it was safe to cross the street.

Seeing this cheerful black cat from the window was soon happening regularly. So much so that Dorees’ owner affectionately named him Oscar.

When it came to creating a logo for Dorees Removals, the owner couldn’t help but think of Oscar. This was a cat that was dependable and careful, qualities that a Removals and Storage company should prize when handling their clients’ belongings. The fact that Dorees was based in Catford (pun intended) was the icing on the cake.

And so, Oscar came to represent the dependable, careful logo of Dorees.

By 1989, Dorees and Bonners of Welling had joined forces to provide their services to the Greater London area and beyond, expanding their business and partnering with clients on their removals journey. It seemed only right to keep Oscar around on vans, boxes and branding alike.

Today, many clients and members of the public have reached out to enquire about our black cat on our logo. Some have even sent photographs of their own pets sleeping and playing in our iconic black cat Packing Boxes.
